Testing Materials

8th Feb 2022

We are learning about Houses and Homes. We tested various materials to find out which would make the most suitable roof for our house.

In groups we discussed what a roof should be: waterproof, strong and positioned at an angle to allow the rain to run off. We built a house and tested tin foil, cotton wool, tissues, bubble wrap and an umbrella and recorded our observations. We discovered the tissues and cotton wool were not suitable as they 'absorbed' the water and fell down. The tin foil and bubble wrap were waterproof but the water created a puddle in the centre. The umbrella was the most suitable as it was waterproof and the water ran down the sides as it was at an angle.
