Sentinus Workshop on Flight

22nd Feb 2022

Sentinus is a not for profit educational charity which works with schools and colleges throughout Northern Ireland to deliver programmes which promote engagement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and support the development of young people by enhancing their essential life skills.

Today James from Sentinus visited us to deliver a workshop on Flight.

First we cut and folded paper to create paper aeroplanes and then we tested them in the hall.

Next, we worked in pairs to make a helicopter.  We had to wind our propeller 100 times in a clockwise direction and then lift it to launch it. One of our helicopters flew up so high it landed and got stuck in one of the trees. Miss Wilson tried to dislodge it but was unsuccessful! Thank goodness it was a windy day.  It wasn’t long before the wind blew it down.

Finally, again in pairs, we made a rocket. We had to fold, cut, bend and stick paper and masking tape together to make it.  Then James launched them into the playground.  They went so high into the sky.

We had so much fun, worked together brilliantly and learned lots.  Some of us didn’t want to go home!
